Education as a Path to a Sustainable Future
Education is one of the essential foundations of a sustainable, responsible, and peaceful society.
Drawing on many years of experience as a teacher and mother, as well as in-depth reflection on learning processes and personal development, I have come to believe that education goes far beyond the mere transmission of knowledge.
Education is a dynamic process that enables everyone to develop their ability to think independently, take responsibility, and use their skills to foster creativity.
Out of this conviction, an educational initiative that I developed has emerged at La Vuardaz.

Hands-On, Social, and Creative Learning
At the heart of this initiative lies hands-on, social, and creative learning.
By this I mean learning processes in which people gain experience by working together, experimenting on their own, and creating. In this way, they learn to understand the connections around them and to actively participate in transforming their environment.
The educational initiative is inspired by the fundamental principles of permaculture. What was originally developed to design sustainable living spaces also offers valuable insights for learning and development:
These principles create a framework conducive to sustainable learning processes. They foster the development of personal responsibility, critical thinking, and social and creative skills.

The educational initiative is developing gradually, through experiences, encounters, and collaborations.
Its concrete form evolves with the people and opportunities that come its way.
A portion of La Vuardaz’s revenue is dedicated to developing the educational initiative and carrying out future educational projects.
La Vuardaz’s educational projects originate in practice. They develop from concrete situations, encounters, and the unique realities of each location. They are based on the guiding principles of the educational initiative, inspired by permaculture. These principles provide a common direction without predetermining the form that individual projects will take.
The projects may take different forms. At their heart are international encounters and exchange, as well as the development and implementation of humanitarian and ecological educational projects.
The projects that emerge will develop according to the encounters, opportunities and circumstances of each place.

At the heart of the initiative are the three Cs:
Cooperation – Communication – Creativity.
They describe how people learn together, work together, and develop new solutions.
Cooperation forms the basis of collective action. Communication enables exchange and mutual understanding. Creativity opens up new perspectives.

La Vuardaz as a Starting Point
La Vuardaz is the first learning hub and the starting point for this educational initiative.
Over time, other learning hubs and new collaborations may emerge—both within the region and internationally.
Each hub will develop its own focus areas and priorities, based on its cultural and social context.
All will, however, remain connected by shared values, mutual exchange, and the belief that learning is both a lifelong and collective process.
